Master Server goes down, What happens to the Media Server?

Hi All,

To keep this simple.

1x Master coupled as a Media Server
1x Media Server

During a nightly backup the Master Server Fails (goes dead). What happens to the Media Server during this period? Does it continue with the jobs that were assigned to it.

Other implications, corruption etc? Also what about the reverse?

If the master server becomes unavailable then all backups fail because the meta-data cannot populate the catalog on the master server.

If the media server fails then it is possible for the backups to be redirected to another storage unit that is NOT marked as on demand only.

Which is why setting up the master as an HA configuration may be worth considering.
