The tape has Volume Expiration date of 28 August 2013 (08/23/2013).

This is the hardware expiration date that I mentioned in my previous post.

Edit the attributes for this media id to make Volume Expiration date 'Never'.

you does not needs to do anything..

Media owner is not assigned...means the media is avaliable for next new media request and does not allocated to any jobs yet..

once the media is allocated, it will show the media owner automatically...

nothing to worry...

if you have scaratch volume pool, move those media to the scratch pool, they will get pickup in next media request and get assiged

I agree with Ram.

One of them is a Cleaning Cartridge and the other 3 do not have any valid images (not Assigned).

Only when the tape gets written to will it be Assigned to the media server.

Move them to Scratch and then try..

. currently they are not in scratch pool.. may be the the job that you are running is looking in another pools..

The 3 unassigned tapes are in specific pools.

Change them to the pool that needs media.

Best to create a Scratch pool and move all expired tapes to Scratch.
Once tapes are in Scratch, NBU will automatically draw from Scratch when a pool runs out of media and will return expired tapes to Scratch.

Not sure if you have a "Scratch" pool defined as at present none of your media belong to scratch pool. Create one if it doesnt exist already. Then move all of those expired, unassigned media to that Scratch pool and test a backup again.

I move the tape to the pool scratch, after I wanted to start a backup job but in the policies I could not scratch chosen as volume pools
I move back to the tape volume pools inial and I restart the job -> always the same problem

Hi,

Change the volume pool to Scratch at tape level only.

No change of volume pool is required at backup policies end.

When a backup policy is triggered scratch tape will be picked up and will be assigned to the volume pool mentioned in the backup policy.

You cannot select Scratch pool in backup policy.

Scratch pool works like this :

You move all Unassigned tapes to Scratch (NOT Cleaning tapes in None pool).

Pool name in Backup Policy remains the same.

If backup pool does not have any more available tapes, NBU will draw from Scratch.
The tape selected in Scratch pool will be moved to the Pool name specified in the policy.

If this is not working for you, it means that something else is wrong with the Unassigned tapes - something like maximum mounts or hardware expiration date exceeded.
(Hardware expiration is different to data expiration - this date is saying to NBU that the tape is too old and can no longer be used for backups.)

Please show us output of the following for one of the Unassigned tapes:

nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid <media-id>
(Command is in  ...Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd)

Also make sure your scratch pool is configured as a scratch pool
