hi,

are you talking about the number of Mounts, that you seen in the Media attributes?

if you would have read the above reference topic, you might have understand that they are different media selection process to chose media for backup .

so based on those EMM will chose the medias, and number of mounts always depends on how many times EMM server selected and used that media for bakup,

so its like EMM selection to sepcific media is directly proportional to the Number of Mounts.

everyting is controled and managed by EMM server, you does not need to worry about all these...

and if you are thinking to keep the Max number of mounts and expire date  for media, that is actaully not require.

if netbackup find that media causing issue. it will freeze that media to avoide further use and you can repalce that.

hope it make some sense.

Thanks for the detailed response. Its exactly what I was looking for !!

I do have one more questions.

In reference to one of the media selection step :

If more than one volume qualifies, NetBackup chooses the volume that was
least recently used.

Is there any way for me to change how netbackup chooses the tape with the lease mounts to selecting a tape with the most mounts ??????????????

Please help me on this as soon as possible.

There is no way to change NBU's method of selecting media. (Unless yo manaually want to move tapes out of the robot or manually assigning media to specific pools.)

There is normally no need to 'micro-manage' NBU media.

Do you have a specific reason for your request?

agreed with Marianne.

you can not chage the selection method,  does not requrire the micro management.

Yes,

some tapes are mounted several times and some are mounted hardly anytime.

I would like have all tapes utilized equally.

Any inputs from you would be much appreciated.

About the only thing you can do that I can think of is reduce the number of partially full media per volume group (this is set in he voume group itself).

Don't make this lower than the number of drives you wish to use at the same time.

These seem contradictory - if you *could* change "to selecting a tape with the most mounts" then the situation would be worse i.e. some tapes will constantly be re-used in preference to others that will hardly ever.
