Hi,
I install media server and got below messages:
Unable to start NetBackup daemon bpdbm. Rerun
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/install_bp when the problem has been resolved.
is it normal or there is problem I need to fix this?
Also, my media server is not listed in "media server" nbu admin console?
Please help.
Thanks

Did you choose Master server or Media server during installation?
If installed as media server, bpdbm will not be started as this is a master server only process/daemon.
Media server will be listed in Host Properties once you have configured devices and storage unit.
See these TNs (same for 7.5 except for bpcd and vnetd that are standalone processes):
How to verify the required Veritas NetBackup (tm) 7.0 daemons / services are up and running on a media server

How to verify the required Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.5 daemons / services are up and running on a master server

do you install netbackup and media manager files [y]
then I enter my master server hostname.
then at last I got bpdbm not able to run (I install this as media server)
my media server still not listed in host properties.
I have master server 7.5.0.6 and media server still 7.5
should I update first, to be listed in host properties?

Open the Master Servers Host properties - go to the servers section and add the new server into the Media Servers section
Then re-start the services on the Master Server
See if it now appears as a media server - let us know if not so that we can give you a command to do it
As Marianne says bpdbm does not need to run on a media server

@mark,
what services I have to restart? all services?
I have master and media server in linux.

bpdbm on the master needs to be restarted when a new media server is added, but because of all the process dependancies, it is best to restart all of NBU with 'netbackup stop', then check with 'bpps -a' to see that everything has stopped, then start with 'netbackup' command.

Patching the media server would not make a difference - I have customers with 7.5 Masters and 6.5 Media Servers
It is the servcie re-start / fully establishing communications that makes a media server show up
