Hi Team,
We are planning Media server migration from windows 2003 to windows 2008 from old server to new server ( P2P)
Master server Windows 2003 with NBU 6.5.6
Media server : ( It has dedicated HP tape library)
Old server : OS: windows 2003 and NBU 6.5.6
New server OS: window 2008 and NBU 6.5.6 ( planning)
Currently only NBU client version is running
We will make same name and same IP ( So no difference from old server only OS and HW)
As per my knowledge, below are step by step
Step 1) delete/uninstall client version on it
Step 2) Reboot the media server
Step 3) Install Media server 6.5 version and then patch 6.5.6 ( offcourse we will give Master server name while installing)
Step 4) Run Device configuration for detect HP tape library
Step 5) And run some test backups
Please let me know are there any configuration steps missed
Much appreciated for suggestion or comments.
Thanks

If you are in effect, deleting the media server then re-adding back under new hardware, you need to delete the storage units and robot/drives. This is because if you transfer the hardware to the new server, the device paths at the OS level will likely be different.
It just ensures everything is neat and tidy when you put the new media server into place.

Delete storage units and devices (robots/tape drives etc) from the media server BEFORE decommissioning the old one! Other than that, looks fine.
also consider upgrading once completed as 6.5.x has not been supported for over a year.

Step 3) Install Media server 6.5 version and then patch 6.5.6 ( offcourse we will give Master server name while installing)
There was a complete new 64-bit installation in version 6.5.4:
CD Image NB_6.5.4.Winx64_CD.exe provides a media refresh to 6.5.4 for Veritas NetBackup (tm) servers and clients only on Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 Server Core x64 platforms, and for new installs on Windows 2003 x64 platforms

Hi Revaroo,
Can you please confirm to delete storage units and devices ( robots/tapes drives) before migration.
Since we are using same server name and same IP ( Do you means it is good for new Media server will update/detect all devices path ?)
Hi Marianne,
As suggested by you, We will install new NBU 6.5.4 and then will go for 6.5.6 patch
And Yes, we are planning to go 7.5.6 for first Opscenter, Master and media and then client. Most probably NOV or December 2013..

Deleting Devices and STU and re-adding them will automatically update EMM.
Probably a good idea to deactivate media server before you start deleting.
List/save all NBU license keys on W2003 server before you uninstall/switch off.

Yep, Marianne.
Will do as you recommanded and let you know once it completed. This may helpfull for those who are going to migrate.

Hi Revaroo/Marianne,
At last we have migrated successfully7.
We faced below issues ( This will help for new persons)
We have deleted some Drives on that media server, But after we deactivated the media server. We face issue in the migration process is all only few drives we able to see, this is due to SAN zone issues on new server.
Thanks for your both support here.
