nbustarter380

Hello,

We are getting Media write errors  (code 84) on a clients backup that we recently moved to our new netbackup server using Disk Pools and dedup. The client was working fine with we used tape. I am not sure why this is happening I have attached client logs to this thread.

Hardware/software info

Netbackup Server Linux Redhat using Netbackup version  7.6.0.3

Netbackup client Windows 2008 64bit  using 7.6.0.3

We are using dedup

Best regards

Is your tape storage unit & dedup storage unit using the same media server?

Is the master server also the media server?

Did you check if the dedup disk volume/pool or storage server are all UP and running?

nbdevquery -liststs -stype PureDisk -U
nbdevquery -listdp -stype PureDisk -U
nbdevquery -listdv -stype PureDisk -U

Thanks Mnolan and Marianne for your replies,

I will post the bptm log,

Marianne,

What is selected for dedupe option - client or media server dedupe? (Host Properties -> Master -> Client Attributes -> <client-name>

Media Server is selected.

Is port 10082 and 10102 open between client and media server?  yes

Is dedupe backup failing for this client only or other clients as well?   its only failing for this Windows client.

regards

I see you have a few logs listed, however bptm and the job details would be better in this situation since the 84 is during the writing of the image which is what bptm is responsible for.

I agree - job details is what we need first of all.

What is selected for dedupe option - client or media server dedupe? (Host Properties -> Master -> Client Attributes -> <client-name>

Is port 10082 and 10102 open between client and media server?

Is dedupe backup failing for this client only or other clients as well?

You never posted job details?

bptm folder must be created on media server doing the backup under netbackup\logs.

All,

Thanks for your responses, This issue has been resolved.  The backup Admin worked with the client to fix issue and the backup is now completing successfully.

fyi - For some reason the bptm folder remained empty when the backup was run

While we are grateful for the Solution being marked, you are not actually saying how the problem was fixed?

Marianne,

The client (windows admin) mentioned that the server had bad sectors? However we talked to our lead admin he mentioned that the disk pools were not setup properly and had an exceeded amount over the required limit? Not sure what exactly that would be I was not part of that.

Best Regards
