Hi All,
We have two Master Servers with OS: Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Server and NBU : 7.0.1.
We have planned to go for a Master and Media Servers set up. How do we merge both the Masters and make it as a single one???

This is a Symantec consultancy job. Is not something you as a end user can do.

If one of the master servers only have a handful of tapes and the catalog is not very large, you can go for the simple solution to manually import the tapes on the master server that you wish to keep. This solution can work for perhaps 20-30 tapes, but will take several days (unless you have many tape drives). Then you can decommision the other master (or demote it to media server) and join it to the other master (nbemmcmd -addhost) or just uninstall NBU and re-install it as media server.
The other option is to call one of the authorized Symantec Data protection partners in your region. If you are lucky they perhaps have a consultant that has attended the special training for catalog manipulation. I've done this type of work for about six years now, and in most cases it does require custom tools to have the EMM databases merged, so it isn't a simple operation.

Please see this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH31385
A number of Symantec Consulting Partners worldwide have been trained on these procedures and certified to deliver them in accordance with standards required by the Symantec technical support organization.
Given the nature of the information stored in the NetBackup catalogs and the potential for data loss, the process of moving or merging the NetBackup catalogs from one platform to another without the assistance of a certified Symantec Consulting Partner is not supported by the Symantec Technical Support organization.
Symantec Consulting Partners will assist customers by determining the correct approach to take, planning the activity and executing the plan successfully with minimum disruption to the operational environment.
Please contact a NetBackup Sales Representative for assistance in engaging a certified Symantec Consulting Partner.
Please note, a migration of this sort must be a part of a conscious, planned, and permanent transition, and should not be part of a disaster recovery process or any part of a disaster recovery plan.

Hi,
i cant find any info about that training (NetBackup Catalog Manipulation)? Where is it possible to do it? only USA?
06-27-2011 01:46 AM
This training does not form part of 'Standard' Symantec training and education.
Talk to your local Symantec office. They know who the NBU specialists are at the local resellers and will invite individuals to attend this training.
We recently received this training in South Africa.

thanks for reply
So i guess, it's possible to receive it in Europe. How many days? is it a long training?

Symantec do not offer this training to just anyone, it is only for approved partners to Symantec. If you need someone to do this work, they will have to be authorised to have access to the tools and support required.
We have recently completed this training and have access so contact me if you still need help.

i know and i want to complete that training.

The easiest way, is that your company contact the appointed partner manager at Symantec. They can then evaluate whether you have the required prerequisites to attend training, based on your consultancy profile/previous traning records that they keep. If your company has the specialization or master specialization partner program for data protection already, you have a much better chance to actually be enrolled to the next training session in your region.

how's about Accreditation Exam after training? is it only for material from training?
11-04-2011 10:44 AM
Yes, the exam is on the last day of training.
Question are from training material plus other questions based on years of NBU experience.
