Migrating Netbackup\db\images to alternative partition

Hello all,

Back in 2011 I followed the now removed technote 68160:

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/tech-note-68160-moving-netbackupdbimages-different-path

The D:\ is our NB install volume and it ran low on space, so using the above technote, I migrated the image folder to our G:\, which has loads of space. It worked well. However I would now like to move our master server to new hardware so went ahead and expanded our D:\ to give it enough space to reverse the change I made in 2011 and bring the image folder back from the G:\ to the D:\.

This has not worked and on this forum i am not really after a solution as to why (unless anyone has any suggestions), as I have logged a support call. What I would like to know is, would migrating my Master server to new hardware be an issue with my Netbackup install directory seperate from the Netbackup\db? I know i would have to configure my new master with the same hostname and partions, i just wondered if there are any gotchas.

Regards

Carl

This is now resolved. I followed the solution in this technote:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&pmv=print&impressions=&viewlocale=en_US&id=TECH213895

It appears during my first attempt not all files from the db folder copied to the new location correctly.

Hi,

Which version were you on back then and what version are you on now? Apparently  that method / technote was removed as it caused some issues with a few places it was implemented, or maybe because it was relevant to 7.1 and not 7.5.

Do you currently have the registry "fixes" applied with the updated locations on your current system?

Hi and thanks for replying,

I was on 7.1 back then.

The registry fix of: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veritas\Netbackup\CurrentVersion\Paths

DATABASE_PATH = G:\\Veritas\\Netbackup\\db

is still in place. When I migrated the Image folder back to the D:\, I changed the registry to point to:

D:\\Veritas\\Netbackup\\db

but no joy.

ok it looks like you need to revert this image DB move before upgrading to NB7.6, and apparently is why the technote was removed:

Why not log a Support call?

Just mention that you used TECH68160 back in 2011 when the process was very much supported by Symantec.
