Move data from LTO4\LTO3 tapes to tapes of different media type

Hello,

we send 10 years backup on LTO4 and T10000 tapes, and we have 10 years backup also on many LTO3.

Customer now wants to stop to send these backups on LTO4 and wants to move data from LTO4\LTO3 to other tapes of a different media type

Do you have any advice about how to do that?

Many thanks

Backups on one media type can be duplicated to new drive/media types, followed by expiration of original copy.

This could be a very lengthy project for which you need to plan properly - you will need time and sufficient old and new drives outside of backup hours during which you run the duplications.

Best if the old and new drives are connected to the same media server so that the source tape for read operation is not mounted on one media server and is sent across the network to another media server for write operation.

Connect the other media type device to the same media server which do own the backups you are willing to give to the customer on other media type. run duplication of this 10 years backups made on lto3/4 to this new desired media type...

simple as that ;)

Thanks for your suggestions

I was hoping could there be an easiest way than run manual duplications, because the amount of data to move is very much

Do you know if Vault could be helpful in this case? We use vault profiles for the move of backups from disk-to-tape, but I don't know if tape-to-tape is supported

The Vault question was asked and answered in one of the posts that I have referenced above.

The duplication process can be scripted.

Thank you Marianne

Considering the other discussions, I believe duplicating with a script is the best way for my case
