Moving Netbackup Database to a new disk

Windows 2008 R2

Netbackup 7.5.0.4

The drive ( drive D:)  where my netbackup database reside's getting out of space very soon, 5gb left.

I was reading 2 solutions in this forum, the first one was the ALTERNATE_PATH and the second was to change a registry key in windows.

I was thinking an another solution but I'm not really sure if its would work. I have a new drive now drive E:, raid 1 with 600GB.  I was wondering if I stop the netbackup services, I copy the whole drive D: on the disk E:, I remove the drive letter from the disk D: and I change the drive letter of the E: drive for D:, restart the netbackup services.

What do you think ?

Your procedure will work - see this post for detailed steps (including NBU catalog backup for 'just in case'):

Do not use the registry key !  This method has been removed due to major issues cuased in a disaster recovery .

The SAFEST procedure is what you mentioned using the ALTPATH.

I would not rename sthe drives either.

Be sure to have a good hot catalog backup before you more the database.

FYI - For UNIX you can follow : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH69970

However for windows, you must use the ALTPATH - creating links in windows is unsupported and I have seen major issues when trying it.

I believe you are referring the registry key method as discussed in this thread:
https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/tech-note-68160-moving-netbackupdbimages-different-path

What you are saying is interesting, I hope you don't mind me using it for future reference when the time comes for us to plan for the undoing of this registry key method. (Could be a long wait.)

A few of our sites have had this registry key method implemented a long time ago while the method was still officially supported.
However, the abrupt removal of the TechNote has invalidated this configuration and caused some concerns when we were still planning for the upgardes, as I detailed in that thread.

This method has been removed due to major issues cuased in a disaster recovery .

Luckily were never had to attempt a full scale one after implementing the method.
