Moving from W2k job to Solaris Environment

I've worked with Windows all my life, now I'm moving to a new role that is based on the Solaris environment. I find this to be a great opportunity to learn as a lot of the bigger organisations are using this environment.

How difficult is it to navigate through the system? Surely the concepts are the same? They have said that in the event of a serious issue the UNIX guys will help out while I learn how to navigate it. I’m assuming that the Java GUI can be used for most of the navigation.

Would a book like "Solaris for dummies" help out? I guess it would be good idea to install on a test box when I start. Tips / suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Tim.

My suggestion is to not use the GUI. Use the command lines instead. It's worth the hassel of learning, especially if you already have to learn a new interface.

I agree. The netbackup GUI hasn't changed much as far as navigation and such.

Netbackup on Unix performs better and more stable. But, the biggest reward from the stand point of Netbackup is troubleshooting.
