Moving old db/image/ClientX from 6.5 to 7.5 and trying to restore

Morning Colleagues...

I have a dilema which I feel I am in big trouble with... maybe you can help...

We had an old system; MASTER_A with v6.5  and approximately 1TB catalog.

We got new hardware: MASTER_B with v6.5. We did NOT migrate the old catalog from MASTER_A into this system. We started a FRESH system per se.

This system was eventually upgraded to v7.5.0.3 and that's the current version... also about ~1TB Catalog

MASTER_A is now offline and decommissioned, however all tapes are still available and we kept the db/images folders from that system.

And of course, now we need to do a restore from MASTER_A with the old version of 6.5.

In the past, we were able to simple move db/images around to different systems and be able to restore or use ALTPATH to that secondary image folder and restore what we needed.

Now that in 7.5, the db was modified and Image Metadata was moved into NBDB..etc... we tried to move an old db/image/client folder into the current active path of the images, and of course as you guessed.. the restore gui doesnt see our little friends: green circle with check mark or blue circle with + mark... etc...

I was able to locate this article:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH198295

Which I read as: during the ugprade from 6.5 to 7.5..some users that used ALTPATH may not have properly migrated all their images and those images are currently not restorable.. but install 7.5.0.4 to resolve this?

Am I reading this correctly? Or, higher powers forbit... do I need to build another 6.5 system to do a restore?!?!

Thanks for your input/suggestions/condolences,

Jiman K.

Have you tried to copy images straight into ...\netbackup\images\<client-name>\<10digit-folder> ?

cat_import will probably be necessary as well: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO72930

You guys ALL ROCK.

After doing

<install Path>\Veritas\NetBackup\bin> cat_import.exe -client server123 -base <archivepath>\VERITAS\NetBackup\db\images

This read the headers in...

Then placed an ALTPATH inside the clients db/image directory to the archived location and VOILA!

Thank you all!
