now I can not find the Netbackup compatibility table for NBU5.x on Symantec's website . so the first thing I recommend is to check if windows 2k3 supports NBU 5.x .

if windows 2k3 supports NBU5.x . then this migration is easy to do . first install NBU5.x on your win2k3 , install related Netbackup patch.  then shutdown Netbackup processes on both the win2k and the win2k3 , and copy the whole Netbackup folders to win2k3 . it should be working .

I don't think you will find compatibility guides for EOSL products... http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74757

I hope you want to migrate to W2003 in preparation of upgrading to 6.5 and then to 7.x?

W2003 32-bit is supported as Master and media server on 5.1. I still have a folder called 'OldStuff' where I keep old compatibility guides - see attached pdf.

Two ways you can go about to migrate:

  1. Install new server with SAME hostname, install NBU and patch to same level as old master, recover catalog
  2. Install new server with SAME hostname, install NBU and patch to same level as old master, copy database folders across: <install-path>\veritas\netbackup\db and <install-path>\veritas\volmgr\database

In both methods, delete devices and redo device config.

We don't unpublish that stuff just because the product is out of support.  (I think you can still find the DataCenter 3.4 Guides if you know where/how to look.)

Here's the "new" link for the 5.x O/S Guide:

Veritas NetBackup (tm) 5.x Operating System Compatibility (updated July 16 2007)

Anyway...what Marianne said.  :)
