Hi all,
i try to run the Drive Diagnostic for my SunStorageTek SL48 on the Media Server and get the message "Unable to allocate resources for diagnostics"! We're running NBU 7.0.1 on the Master and Media Server. I could see the drives like in the attached picture.
I made also the following checks:
# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbemmcmd -getemmserver NBEMMCMD, Version:7.0.1 These hosts were found in this domain: rozrhbckb01, rozrhbckp01 Checking with the host "rozrhbckb01"... I don't know why the version is 7.0 and not 7.0.1!
# ./tpautoconf -report_disc #
There is no response ...

So, i don't know were the problem is. Can someone help me with this problem?
Thanks ...

Hi,
Your drives are showing AVR which implies it (the media server) cannot talk to the robot, or its control host in this case which seems to be your master server. Have you zoned the tape drives to the media and the robot to the master??

Hi Riaan,
how can i check this? I have configure the Robot on the Master Server, that means i use the Device Configuration Wizard for that on the master server! but when i run the checks on the master i get no ouptut from the Robottest and Drive test! Sould i run the Wizard on the media server to add the robot?
Thanks for your help!

Martin

Hi,
Can you post the output of INSTALL_PATH/volmgr/bin/scan from both hosts?
I'm curious as to why you zoned the robot to the master but the drives to the media. How is the zoning done, which server can see which component i.e. master can see the robot and 2 drives, master can see only the robot, etc etc?

(i.e. AVR status as pointed out by Riaan, so possible additional config issues) do you have the job details from the Activity Monitor for the failed Drive Diagnostic job?
The reason I ask is I've just tried to run the same (never done it before as far as I'm aware, so thought I'd give it a go!). This failed at the same stage as yours & with the same error - "Unable to allocate resources for diagnostics".
However, although the job failed with an EC800 the job details also gave an EC96 - No media is available - which got me to thinking.....
....the guide only states "For robotic drives, the test media is loaded automatically. For a stand-alone drive, insert the prelabeled test tape that is shown in the Step Information column of the Results window."
....so what's this "test media" that's "loaded automatically"?
Turns out (for us) that this "test media" is any media within the volume pool NetBackup - had to manually move media into same as we generally don't use it & the subsequent diagnostic completed successfully.
This may not assist you totally, but is another possible stumbling block (undocumented) that may catch you out.

Hi Andy,
here the output of the failed job:
β07-12-2011 06:50 AM
HI Martin,
I would suggest deleting the robot you have configured on the master. Devices > Robots
Then update the robot that is configured on the media server (same place as above) Change, Robot is locally controlled by this host > Browse and select the path.
Or delete the one on the master then rerun the device configuration and specify only the media server. If there are any media configured and listed as being in a robot, select them all, and MOVE to stand alone before you use the wizard.
β07-12-2011 07:45 AM
- will need to ensure there's an available tape within the NetBackup volume pool prior to running the diag (once you're happy that the config's correct!)

hi all,
now, i have delete the robot on the master server and reconifgure it for the media server:
root@rozrhbckb01 (global) # /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmoprcmd HOST STATUS Host Name Version Host Status ========================================= ======= =========== rozrhbckb01 701000 ACTIVE-DISK rozrhbckp01 701000 ACTIVE PENDING REQUESTS <NONE> DRIVE STATUS Drive Name Label Ready RecMID ExtMID Wr.Enbl. But now, i'm not able to run the robot or device diagnostic on the media server also i get the following on the master server when i try to run the diagnostic utility:
I couldn't see anything also the drive diagnostic doesn't work. I'm currently a little bit confused about this. Where can i find the status codes for the tapes? Thanks for your help ..

Hi,
I never use this util, don't think its that usefull, but from the screenshot above I can see that the device host is set to the master, not the media?
β07-13-2011 04:32 AM
Hi,
i'm not able to change that! In the screenshot overview you can see that the device host is the media. have i to specify a SERVER in the vm.conf?
Regards,
Martin

Have you tried opening it from the media server itself? I'm not sure, just pondering....
