NBU 7.5.0.x Media Server deployment on RHEL 5.9 platform as Virtual Machine

Hi,

I looked at Support for NetBackup 7.x in virtual environment document, and found NBU 7.5.0.5 or later supports Media Server deployment as Virtual Machine on RHEL 5.5 (64-bit), and RHEL 6.3 (64-bit) platforms.

Can someone please confirm if same is supported on RHEL 5.9 platform?

Thanks,

Darpan

The OS compatibility guide in Nicolai's post applies to physical and virtual machines.

Please read carefully through 'General guidelines for support' in Support for NetBackup 7.x in virtual environment doc.

See Virtual media server  topic in same doc for supported devices and OS.
Extract:

For a list of supported NetBackup 7.x media server platforms, see the NetBackup 7 Operating System Compatibility List:

Table 2 lists the Virtualization technologies that supports Media Manager (tape).
You will see that VMware is NOT in this list - meaning that only disk storage is supported on VMware media servers.

The reference to RHEL 5.5 that you have found is about VMware backup host and not related to your question.

Hope this helps.

All Red Hat 5 levels are supported.

NetBackup 7.x Operating System Compatibility List

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648

Take a look at page 44

NetBackup is supported on all editions (Advanced, Base, DC, etc.) and on all vendor GA updates (n.1, n.2, etc.) or service packs (SP1, SP2, etc.) unless stated otherwise in the tables below
