NBU 7.5 General Question

Hello,

I'm fairly new to the NBU arena, and understand it may help if I knew additional specifics within an environment however wondering if some information can be provided in regards to new NBU functionality:

* NBU Replication Director: This functionality is only available for NetApp. Is that correct?

* NBU Accelerator: Is this feature available for any client being backed up, or is it dependant on an Operating System version? Where is this information available?

* NBU Search and Restore: Is available for Windows Servers, but what about other Operating System versions? Where is this information available?

Also, since it can be used for eDiscovery purposes...does this mean it needs to be integrated with an Enterprise Vault environment using Discovery Accelerator? Or is this similar functionality as Evault and Discovery Accelerator without being fully integrated?

Please advise on your comments or questions,

Thanks for your help!

Best Regards,

Dennis

NBU Replication Director: This functionality is NOT only available for NetApp, however with OpenStorage integrations; a partner plugin must be released by the storage provider to allow the NBU application to centrally manage policies, schedules, catalog, and user interface to perform backup and snapshot replication. Do you agree?

Yes

NBU Accelerator: Is this feature available for any client being backed up, or is it dependant on an Operating System version? This document does not clarify this question; however since no indication has been made are we safe to say that it can be used on any client server as long as the OS version is supported by NBU 7.5. Do you agree?

Yes my understanding is it will work with any client (Windows, Solaris, Linux) but you can only send the data to a specific storage unit )MSDP, PDDO, Cloud and OST currently) and will only work with Standard and MS Windows policies

NBU Search and Restore: Is available for Windows Servers, but what about other Operating System versions? This document does not clarify this questions; however since it can search across catalog, client and media servers that we are safe to say that as long as these are running on a Operating System supported by 7.5 we are good to go. Do you agree?

Only windows 2008 supported so far. Have a read of this connect thread
It will search for backups ON all other operating systems.

I was able to get some clarity, but not all...I'm looking for something more specific. However, since it describes its features generically can I assume: (Please confirm or advise on any comments)

This document explains this functionality, and it seems like this feature is totally separate from an Enterprise Vault environment with Discovery Accelerator. Therefore if the Legal Team requires some of this data it will need to be searched twice if all of these application exist under a single environment. Do you agree?

Please advise...Thanks. Dennis
