NBU 7.x - Administration Console Login Problem

Hi all,

we have problems with the NetBackup Administration Console on Windows. When our customer try to login he gets the following error message:

I have try to add the user to the /usr/openv/java/auth.conf file and add his computer to the server list of the master server in the bp.conf file but without success? Can someone help me with this problem? We're facing this issue with NBU 7.0.1 and NBU 7.1.0.1 on Solaris 10 x86.

auth.conf is only relevant if you use the Java based GUI on the workstation...

If you look in the bpcd log on the master server, you can see whether the computer you use the admin console on is connecting at all. If so, you would see IP address in vnetd log. bpcd will try to match the IP address with a hostname. This hostname must exist in bp.conf. If bpcd cannot resolve, you get the above error.

Test reverse lookup is simple, use nslookup/dig on master, type in the IP address of your workstation. If it resolves to a hostname, then use that hostname in bp.conf.

thanks for your response. We have check the dns entries and the ip's allthing is fine in this way. So we're a little bit confused about that. Any other ideas?

Rather use vxlogview to make sense of unified logs...

Is the customer trying to open the Admin Console on the Windows Master?

Is this a new installation or an installation that has worked fine up to now?

Are all services running on the master?

Please post output of all of the following from cmd on the master:

bpps
bpclntcmd -self
nbemmcmd -listhosts

1st two commands should be in ...\netbackup\bin and the last one in ...\netbackup\bin\admincmd

our Master is running on Solaris 10 x86 with the version 7.0.1. We installed the Admin Console on our Windows Workstations. For me the Admin Console is working. All my colleagues have the same permissions rights on the master server but the still could not get access through the admin console.

We have add the Server entries for our windows workstations in the bp.conf. For the host WZRH0654 the Admin console is working for the two others the login still failed.

Please have another look at your opening post.

The error is seen while trying to connect to ROSINBCKP01.fqdn.   Your master server name is  rozrhbckb01.

Did the user make a typo error or is that the name of his/her workstation?

This name ROSINBCKP01 does not exist in any SERVER entry.

we have the same problem with diffrent master servers in diffrent locations. Each master server is independet from each other, means each master is a separate NBU environment.

Why not use the Windows Java Console on the Windows workstations instead of the Admin Console? This eliminates the need for all the SERVER entries. You will need auth.conf entries on the master server.

For Windows Admin Console, ensure forward and reverse hostname lookup between the master(s) and the workstations.

I have had the same issue after doing the 7.0.1 upgrade and I prefer to use the windows admin over the JAVA  (there are differences between the two and the windows admin as some options I use a lot that the java does not).

I could never figure out why - some times it works and some times it does not.
