hi,

we are integrating netbackup with Datadomain 6.2.0.20 DDOS and want to configure SLP to replicate data from NBU domain to DR NBU domain,

data on datadomain is written to VTL and storage units through DDBoost over IP, i se in the NBU AIR configuration guides they state about replicating data in storage units but there is no mention that we can replicate data residing on VTL tape volume pools, is that correct? can we replication data on tape volume pools?

regards,

VTL is seen as physical tape and therefore impossible to replicate via AIR.
No tape is supported with AIR. Only dedupe disk storage that is configured as such.

You can only replicate DDboost OST disk pools / STUs.

Hi

You can’t use dd vtl with AIR. If you want to use AIR, you have to use the dd as open storage (ost).

If you want to use vtl then you can replicate the vtl to dr but nbu wont be aware of it.

In other words you would need to import the tapes in the dr site before you can restore. AIR is a lot simpler.

hi,

importing tapes in DR needs catalog to be rebuilt in DR server, correct?

Hi,

No, the process of importing a tape actually reads the tape and then adds the required images to the catalog.

After the import you can restore the backup.

That is what makes AIR better. It does this automatically for you. I would really look at changing your configuration to use OST instead of VTL. Just verify you have the correct licenses for the DFD
