Just checking this in relation to NBU 7603 and any changes which may have crept in........
If I have a standard schedule setup within a policy of say a daily INCR (Mon-Thur, Sat, Sun), weekly FULL (Friday) and Monthly FULL (Friday) - do I still need to exclude the Friday's on which the monthly and Weekly clash from the Weekly schedule or will the Monthly automatically override the Weekly if it has a longer retention period ?

It is actually the frequency and not retention that determines schedule priority.
As long as all schedules are in the same policy.
The schedule with lower frequency (longer time between backups) will be submitted (not retention).
My experience has been similar to these posts (one of them quite old...):

I remember a time when there was a bit of an issue with frequency (weekly) and calendar (monthly) for example both running on the same day (Friday) where both schedules kicked off.
The way we fixed this was to open the backup window for the Monthly 10 minutes before the Weekly.
Not sure if this is still the case and if anything has changed in recent 7.6 versions...
