hi all,

1). How would you tune NetBackup to increase backup performance?

2)what is the use of temp files, which location(PATH) it will store in Unix/windows?

3)how can you recover a correpted images?

4). If your last catalog backup was two days ago and the master server crashed what would you have to do to bring your environment back up to present time?

5) What are the critical catalogs or databases on a Media Server?

6)how is image stored in net backup?

1) Depends on the situation.  Here is a technote that details buffer tunings:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH18422

2) Same as for OS temporary files. NetBackup has a tmp directory in /usr/openv/tmp

3) Restore them. If they corrupt then they need to be recovered.

4) You can only bring the environment back to 2 days ago using bprecover -wizard or via the GUI after reinstalling NetBackup to the same version as it was at before (and using the same Master hostname>

You could import disk/tape images if you have the time, but 2 days of backups back isn't worth the overhead in my opinion (depending on how many backups done since the last 2 days prior to catalog backup)

5) There are none on media servers all critical catalogs/database are stored on the Master server.

6) Depends on the version, they are stored in /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images - you have a header file and a files file (contains a list of files on tape/disk) - in 7.5 onwards the header meta data is stored in the EMM database
