NBU catalog backup strategy for IBM 3582 ATL

What are some alternatives to doing NBU catalog backups? The config is NetBackup 5.1 MP2 on a server that has an IBM 3582 ATL attached. Although there are two drives in this ATL, there are only 23 slots to contain tapes. Two slots just for catalog backups seems extravgant. We want ti avoid moving tapes in and out of this ATL as much as possible.

Any other ideas?

Hi,

I would recommend using 2 way catalog backup.
1) That happens on a tape. (Primary location)
2) That happens on a hard disk. (Alternate location)

Set up the catalog backup to alternate between a disk and a media storage unit.

Hi,
You can specify tape and disk as alternative. if you don't
want to take catalog backups on a tape which is in the robot then connect a stand alone drive and take the catalog
backups.
