We are in the process to decom one of our data centers. We have a Master server that's a VM and 2 physical Media servers. We dont have any backups left and only require the long term data for restore purposes.
Would spinning up a VM as a Media server be sufficient in this instance as the new image owner when we decom the physical servers?

What you are proposing might be fine. The question is what the long term data media are the backups held on? Tape isn't officially supported on a VM (although I know it can be made to work). And if the data is on MSDP, you have to issue of migrating the data to the VM (again it can be done - most simply by P2V the media server).
Yes this is also possible - the required NetBackup software will be already installed on the master other than possibly the DD OST plugin (install this if not already there). Just set up the master to have access to the DD (storage server - allow the master to have access to the DD), then create the required storage units and re-assign the media to use the master.
