NBU7 bpps -a documented but not implemented?

Altimate1

Hi,

New to NetBackup, I read ebooks and view eTraining (STS accreditation track).
On some of them (at least NBU7 administration - Part1 - Lesson 2), some slides
say that a "bpps -a" command will list all services.

I had a try at this command and it looks like the "-a" is not implemented (at least
not documented in the command help)!

May I have missed something?
Regards
Bernard

In the commands manual it appears that the options are different for Windows & *NIX?

?Question mark as I'm still running 6.5.4 on *NIX - it appears that this is also the case here too?!

***EDIT***

So a basic thing that I've missed to for nn years! Still learning!

You did not mention O/S?

bpps -a works on Unix (-x as well):

bpps -a ....... in NB7.x Windows, this option is no longer

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin>bpps -a
bpps - Error: illegal -a option.

NetBackup 7.0 -- Process Statistics
Usage:  bpps [-l|-s|-S] [-t sample_time[m]] [-i|-x process_group] ... [host_name] ...
        bpps -? [process_group ...]
        Options:
-? Print the help screen.  Specifying process_group here
displays the list of processes that would be included or
excluded when specifying process_group with the -i or -x
                   options.
                -l Output a long listing.
-s Output a short listing (default).
-S Output a short listing without the header (i.e. Host name,
           date and column headings).
-t Specify the sample time (default 1 second).  The sample
time is specified in seconds unless followed by m, which
specifies the sample time in milliseconds.
-i Include the specified process group in the listing (default
                   NB_ALL).
-x Exclude the specified process group from the listing.

as I read those command & parameter (-a) in the windows part of the NBU7 eTraining.

It looks like that this parameter was removed in NBU7 (see Mohamed reply) and that some eTraining were not updated to reflect this.

This is not so important as long as the protored assesment don't ask this!

It's not there for windows in the 6.x documentation either:

SYNOPSIS
install_path\NetBackup\bin\bpps [-l | -s | -S] [-t sample_time[m]] [-i | -x process_group] ... [host_name] ...
install_path\NetBackup\bin\bpps -? [process_group ...]
DESCRIPTION
The bpps command lists the process statistics for all processes that run on your system. This command enables you to list a specific process group. It also enables you specify a sample time in seconds (or milliseconds) before it lists the processes.

Note: The command options used by bpps are unrelated to the options used by the Unix bpps command.

So that beggars the questions "Was it ever?" & "Was your training documentation correct?"

Must be a Windows thing because it works and is documented in the man page for NBU 7.0.1 on Solaris.

covers both with the caveat that they are different from the perspective of each OS!

Wasn't aware that there were such marked differences for commands between OS's - wonder if they're are many more?

Its not in 6.5 Windows either, you just run bpps :)

All above posts, comments and replies confirm that the "-a" is gone away... I hope people in charge of upcomming releases of various training and manuals will take this in account.

BTW: is there elsewhere a dedicated forum for posting errors we can found in the documentation?

Let's make sure we're clear here - the -a command line switch is still available in UNIX. It is documented as such in the UNIX guide and specifically calls out UNIX.

Marianne's post above clearly shows that it's working. I just tried it on my own 7.0.1 (Solaris) server and it worked for me, too.

So it's not "gone away" from Windows so much as "never was."  Does that make sense?  ;)

Hi Swati - I'm going to take you up on this one...  I have found a diagram in one of the NBU manuals today that is totally wrong...

So far none of my Ideas have had a positive outcome.

Thats what i said too, was never there in windows :)

My surprise was that there were different options for the two environments & wasn't even aware until this week that this was the case!

I live in a sheltered *NIX environment!

You've got all the attention this time:). Will post a response to your Idea some time soon. Thanks!
