NBU7 redirect restore to a non-NBU-Client?

Hi,

Search a lot but fail to found an answer. Is it possible from the Master Server
using BAR, to restore data (backed up from a licensed NBU Client) to a
non-NBU-licensed-Client ? (or a CIFS share elsewhere available)

Thanks
Bernard

On the Media Server, right-click on My Computer -> Manage -> Services.

Scroll down to NetBackup Client service.

Double-click on the NetBackup Client Service.
Click on the Log On tab.
Select This account.

Enter Account name that has sufficient rights (e.g. same account name that is used to map the drive).

The NBU software needs to be on the destination client if you want to restore there directly. The back of the Troubleshooting Guide contains a process flow diagram. You will see the processes and ports needed for connection and accepting of restore data.

You can restore to a network share on another NBU client, provided that the logon account for the NBU Client Service has write permission to the share.

Hope this answers your question?

Thanks Marianne,

I will have a look at troubleshooting guide as per suggested.

I'm now trying to restore to a CIFS share (mapped as a drive letter onto the MediaServer).
How could I ensure that the NBU Client Service as proper rights? currently, despite
the share is mapped using admin right, the restore fail whenever I try restoring to
that share.

Thank you Marianne,

I had similar issue when testing BE2010 and using a similar tips, I managed to fix the issue.

But with NBU, even this don't fix the issue. Here is what BAR repport:

18:06:27 21/10/2010: Restore Started

18:06:31 (139.001) Restoring from image created 21/10/2010 17:54:01
18:06:36 (139.001) INF - TAR STARTED
18:06:39 (139.001) INF - Beginning restore from server vm-sym-nbu7 to client vm-sym-nbu7.
18:06:40 (139.001) TAR - C:\Users\Administrateur\Documents\capture-2 NBU7 Geting started wizzard execution.camrec
18:06:40 (139.001) MNR - The file was renamed to the following:
18:06:40 (139.001) UTF - \\10.5.2.22\nfsvol\capture-2 NBU7 Geting started wizzard execution.camrec
18:06:40 (139.001) WRN - can't set compression state: \\10.5.2.22\nfsvol\capture-2 NBU7 Geting started wizzard execution.camrec (WIN32 50: Cette demande n’est pas prise en charge. )
18:06:40 (139.001) WRN - error writing file: \\10.5.2.22\nfsvol\capture-2 NBU7 Geting started wizzard execution.camrec
18:06:40 (139.001) WRN - disk full at byte: 0

File is created but finally it's empty! is there a more detailled log file to look at?

Anymore idea will be appreciated.

check tar log on media server.

If log dir does not exist, please create and retry the restore.

Might be some permission issue on the folder where you are going to restore. Try to check the permission on the share where you want to restore

I created the tar folder and restarted the restore using both UNC or mapped drive.

This is what I can see: (WRN - can't create file)

10:03:14.037: [5052.4396] <4> file_system_restore::tfs_writeopen_file_system: WRN - can't get file attributes for '\\?\UNC\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-3 NBU7 add NetBackup Path to PATH variable.camrec': (WIN32 5: Accès refusé. )

10:03:14.041: [5052.4396] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - can't create file: \\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-3 NBU7 add NetBackup Path to PATH variable.camrec (WIN32 5: Accès refusé. )

10:03:14.041: [5052.4396] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgM: CKP - 159.001 1287734593 0 0 17543 1 0 T 91 /C/Users/Administrateur/Documents/capture-3 NBU7 add NetBackup Path to PATH variable.camrec

10:03:14.086: [5052.4396] <4> file_system_restore::tfs_writeopen_file_system: WRN - can't get file attributes for '\\?\UNC\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-4 NBU7 Geting started wizzard execution.camrec': (WIN32 5: Accès refusé. )

10:03:14.097: [5052.4396] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - can't create file: \\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-4 NBU7 Geting started wizzard execution.camrec (WIN32 5: Accès refusé. )

10:03:14.103: [5052.4396] <4> file_system_restore::tfs_writeopen_file_system: WRN - can't get file attributes for '\\?\UNC\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-5 NBU7 deduplication.camrec': (WIN32 5: Accès refusé. )

10:03:14.108: [5052.4396] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - can't create file: \\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-5 NBU7 deduplication.camrec (WIN32 5: Accès refusé. )

I also ensured that when mapped, I'm able (as administrator) to create files and folders on the share. I do the test either when the drive is mapped or unmapped (using net use Letter: /delete)

The NBU Client service logon is defined as "this system account" but setting it specifically to "Administrateur" won't change the result.

I also get :

10:18:57.188: [2752.4416] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - error writing file: \\c200-20bA\Maxtor20\capture-1 NBU7 windows installation.camrec
10:18:57.188: [2752.4416] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - disk full at byte: 0
10:18:57.188: [2752.4416] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - wanted buffer size: 260608

of course the share as free space (let say 7Gb free which should be enough to restore few small files).

and permissions (as seens from W2k8 seems to allow creating folders, subfolders and files.

what next?

I don't understand this statement:

"The NBU Client service logon is defined as "this system account" but setting it specifically to "Administrateur" won't change the result. " Have you tried yet?

If you can logon as "Administrateur" and create file/folders, then changing the logon account for NBU Client to the same account should work. Just remember to restart the service once you have changed the logon account.

Now it works! i have done tons of changes followed by bpdown/bpup along with configuration changes on the NAS server and I finally got the restore working as espected.

I don't really understand why it works now.

Whatever I noticed that it is working WITH the logon account set to .\Administrateur account (not the Local system account) and think your help was valuable for me.

Thanks
