It happens on multiple policies.

We are backing up an EMC NAS and the backups are going to an EMC DL3D 3000 VTL (Virtual LTO3).

NetBackup 6.5.3.1
HP-UX IA64 11.23

The above is the NDMP agent host and the backups are direct (not 3 way).

Thx

I would recommend opening a support case with Symantec for this issue.  It sounds like it could be a bug in either NetBackup or in the particular version of the DART OS running on your EMC Celerra.

I found a Symantec technote that describes similar behavior:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/321567.htm

Also double-check the compatibility list on Symantec's website to make sure that the firmware versions on your EMC DL3D 3000 VTL and your EMC Celerra are supported with NetBackup 6.5.3.1 and your HP-UX 11.23 media server.

According to the compatibility list, Symantec has verified that the EMC DL3D series of VTLs works with NetBackup 6.x and HP-UX 11.23 media servers if the EMC DL3D is running the 1.0 firmware or higher and the virtual tape drives are emulating an IBM TotalStorage Ultrium-3 T800F tape drive.

It also says that your EMC Celerra needs to be running one of the following versions of DART:
  • 5.1.23.0 or higher
  • 5.2.11.3 or higher
  • Any version of 5.3
  • 5.4.18 or higher
  • 5.5.19 or higher
  • 5.6.36-4 or higher
If you're running an older version of DART that's not on the list (such as 5.6.x prior to 5.6.36-4), you should work with EMC to get your Celerra's firmware upgraded.
