I have also been getting status 99 errors attempting to conduct CIFS backups via NDMP from a NetApp Filer to IBM LTO2 drives in a Dell 136T library. The errors generally resemble:

9/29/2006 2:07:39 AM - Error bpbrm(pid=3944) socket read failed, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (10054)
9/29/2006 2:07:40 AM - Error bpbrm(pid=3944) socket read failed, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (10054)
9/29/2006 2:07:53 AM - Error bptm(pid=9512) io_ioctl_ndmp (MTBSF) failed on media id 0070L2, drive index 0, return code 12 (NDMP_EOF_ERR) (bptm.c.8127)
9/29/2006 2:07:54 AM - end writing; write time: 01:39:22
NDMP backup failure(99)

or

9/27/2006 11:05:52 AM - Error bptm(pid=9232) FREEZING media id 0251L2, External event caused rewind during write, all data on media is lost
9/27/2006 11:05:52 AM - Error bpbrm(pid=4704) socket read failed, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (10054)
9/27/2006 11:05:52 AM - end writing; write time: 00:03:50
media write error(84)

Both myself and the NetApp techs are at a loss as to what exactly this is telling us. From the filer side, it looks like it's requesting another tape and just never gets it, waits a while and closes the connection. However fromthe NBU side, it looks like the filer is performing an unexpected rewind of the tape and then forcibly terminating the connection.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

What version of NBU for NDMP are you running?

Possible cause for this error is that none of the backup paths exist on the NDMP host. Check the Netbackup All Log Entries report.

Chad,

Open a new thread so you can give us ponts. In the mean time look to see if your filer has enough space available to make its NDMP - tar.

The logs show that the path is unknown. I am running NBU 6.0 MP3. Is there a default path that should be used? I am also receiving status code 99. Has anyone found a resolution to the problem?

When we get 99's it was due to the fact the files were not there or the files were not changing and therefore had nothing to back up on incrementals.
