With NetApp, pathname must start with /vol/volume_name.

post the policy information, it appears you are using invalid arguments in your backup selection string

Please post the output of:

bppllist policyname -U

where policyname is the name of your NDMP policy

_VOLUME_ looks very wrong - would normally expect /vol0/ or similar

This error is coming from the NAS, not NBU:

(NDMP_ILLEGAL_ARGS_ERR)

Please verify that the backup selection is valid:
  /__VOLUME__/noncriticaldata/

What make/model is your NAS filer?
NBU version?

Do you have teh drives direct attach to the filer? The volume name can be an issue but realy doent violates the standard chars. Check u can see the drives from the filer seems to be u havent get there yet but it worth to check

Please confirm actual path on the NDMP filer. Work with your filer admins.
That is what you need to put in Backup Selection. You need to add the FULL path. Relative path such as folder1 will not work.

Also share the following info:
Make/model of your filer?
NBU version?

If you can access the filer, or ask your filer admin get him to run:

# rsh filername vol status

where filername is the name of your filer - and show us the output - this will tell us what volume names it is using.

Also:

cifs shares

Should show all CIFS shares but not sure how in depth the result is

Ask your filer admin for a volume listing and ask him which volume noncriticaldata resides on

Hi All,

Many Many Thanks to All for this solution but i need some more clarification about NDMP backup.

I have already Setup exsiting NDMP backup and those backup are working fine on regular basis with the following Backup selection path in same environment.

"/__VOLUME__/volume-name" and this Volume on diffrent San Storage (HITACHI SAN STORAGE)

At this time we have Netapp, As per my knowlede for Netapp filer we mentioned /vol/volume-name but as per Environment configuration i had try this option to configure backup policy and issue had come.

I just want to know what is the diffrence between Netapp Storage and Other San Storage for backup path selection and other NDMP backup option's

Lot's of Thanks
