NDMP level differences for incrementals between 6.0 and 6.5?

NDMP (or at least the netapp implementation of it) doesn't have the
concept of a true incremental.  I'm used to this being somewhat "faked"
by increasing the level numbers.  On my filers I can see that the level
numbers increase.  This is in a 6.0 environment.

Day 1 Full - level 0
Day 2 Diff Incr - level 1
Day 3 Diff Incr - level 2
Day 4 Diff Incr - level 3
and so on...

But I just checked some machines in a 6.5 environment, and I don't see
this pattern.  Instead:

Day 1 Full - level 0
Day 2 Diff Incr - level 9
Day 3 Diff Incr - level 9
Day 4 Diff Incr - level 9
and so on...

Is this a change between 6.0 and 6.5, or is something else happening?  Any way to get back the old behavior?  This do-level-9-for-incr-backups uses more tape.

Thanks!

Where are you getting these level numbers from?

If they are netbackup levels - meaning you go into the master properties and look at Retention Periods

as you set those they reflect as levels in your policies.

So could it be you had those setup custom - tho I would think the upgrade would NOT change those but still you could look.

The level is the internal (netapp) backup level that the NDMP host is being asked to perform by Netbackup.  It's visible in the backup logs on the NDMP host itself.

From the Auburn list, it appears this is a bug with 6.5.3 (ET1435435) and is resolved in 6.5.4.  The only 6.5 tests I'd done were on 6.5.3, so they all hit this problem.
