Suggesting to avoid crossing volume / qtree size more than 1.38TB or 29 Million Files as this can cause single file restoration to become very slow.

Keep this in mind while creating volumes on the NetApp storage. I had faced this problem once and then ended up in spliting the volumes.

Below mentioned is the TN for you reference.

Hope this helps...

My concern is not so much for slow restores ,, has symantec put a restriction on the max size of a single qtree for ndmp backup which could cause problem for backups or may be even restores ,,if yes is that max size 1.38 TB as per the above doc?

As far as I know QTREE is a NetApp terminology, NBU will read that just as any folder inside volume.

Major concern in NBU point-of-view is the size of the volume or number of files inside the volume.

Also DAR is a functionality which gives you faster restores of the single files.

So as you have already read the document which says max vol size is 1.38 TB then do not create volumes larger than that said size.
