NIC Crd Duplex settings for Netbackup client

Hello Friends ,

One of the nbu client in my backup setup give very low throughput like 80 Kbps, i checked with windows admin NIC is configured on half duplex or full duplex .

They conformed it is on Auto .

Can i ask them to configure on 100 mbps Full duplex ??

If we make this changes on hosts any wrong impact possible ??

If this is Gigabit NIC, the Auto setting is correct.

Only if this is 100BaseT NIC should setting be changed.

Tell us more about the client. 
Which Windows version?
File types being backed up? When last was fragmentation checked?

Ya , It is Gigabit NIC with windows 2003 and it is BMR backup .

"BMR backup" tells us that "All Local Drives" is probably getting backed up, but it does not tell us anything about the file types getting backed up on the client.

To troubleshoot slow backups, the first step is to test disk read speed from disk.

If disk read speed is fine, look at NIC settings.
TCP Chimney is one of the main reasons for slow backup on W2003 clients.

That TN is good for 100BaseT.

We have seen in real life that Gigabit NICs should be left at Auto.

This line in the TN seems to be the only bit of advice still relevant:

• If auto-negotiate is used, make sure that both ends of the connection are set at the same mode and speed. The higher the speed, the better.

Please look at disabling TCP Chimney on W2003 clients and media servers. 

We have seen MAJOR backup performance increase where this was disabled.
