NOM 6.5 issues on Solaris 9

Niall_Porter
Level 4
Hi all,

I've just installed NOM 6.5 on a Solaris 9 box along with the prerequisites PBX and Symantec Product Authentication service from the ICS CD.  I configured the Authentication service in Root+Broker mode.  When I start NOM it seems to start OK and if I run nomps immediately it seems that VRTSnomd is running.  When I browse to the web front-end and try and log in it says the database isn't running.  I run nomps again and get the following output:
Veritas NOM processes

UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
    root 711 1 0 16:35:44 ? 0:04 ./NOM_dbsrv -o /opt/VRTSnom/logs/nomdbsrv.log @/opt/VRTSnom/var/global/nomserve
    root 734 1 0 16:35:49 ? 0:00 /opt/VRTSamnom/bin/vxamd nom -c DRIVER=Adaptive Server Anywhere 9.0;ENG=NOM_abz

    ---- ---- ----- - --:--:-- ----- -:-- ------- VRTSnomd NOT RUNNING

So I guess that VRTSnomd is stopping soon after startup.  I started it again and ran nomps a few times and it does seem to stop a few seconds after startup regardless of whether I try to log in through the web app or not (so I guess it's not something in the web app that's stopping it).  I googled for "VRTSnomd NOT RUNNING" and found a Symantec technote which says this will happen if the Authentication Service is installed in Root Only mode but mine isn't, it's Root+Broker (as the technote says to do if this happens).  Can anyone help?  I've pasted the contents of /opt/VRTSnom/logs/51216-148-839072010-090518-0000000000.log below if it's any help.

Thanks in advance,
Niall

To connect Symantec Product Authentication Service and Symantec Private
Branch Exchange:
1 Open the command console and enter the following command:
/opt/VRTSat/bin/vssat showispbxexchflag
This command gives the value of pbxexchflag. If the value of
pbxexchflag is 0, you need to set it to 1.
Note: In case the value of pbxexchflag is 1, you do not need to follow the
remaining steps. You should be able to log on to NOM.
2 Stop all the NOM services by entering the following command:
/opt/VRTSnom/bin/NOMAdmin -stop_service
3 Stop Symantec Product Authentication Service by issuing kill command
on the process id of the vxatd service. For example, if the process id of
vxatd service is 203, run the following command:
kill 203
4 Run the following command to stop Symantec Private Branch Exchange:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged stop
5 Enter the following command at the bin directory to set the value of
pbxexchflag:
/opt/VRTSat/bin/vssat setispbxexchflag --enable
The value of pbxexchflag is set to 1. Follow step 1 of this procedure to
verify if the value of pbxexchflag is 1.
6 Run the following command to restart Symantec Private Branch Exchange:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged start
7 Run the following command to restart Symantec Product Authentication
Service:
/opt/VRTSat/bin/vxatd
8 Run the following command to restart all the NOM services:
/opt/VRTSnom/bin/NOMAdmin -start_service
9 You will be able to log on to NOM.

Thanks for the info.  It seemed that the flag was already set to 1.  However I followed the steps anyway and VRTSnomd still appears to stop after startup (VRTSnomd NOT RUNNING in nomps output).

I tried logging in anyway, set the Domain to broker, username admin and the password I set in the Authentication install steps and I get the following output in my browser:

Could not connect to the server.
Please verify the below services are running
1. VxAT server (latest shipped version)
2. Database service
3. VxAM service

Any further ideas?
Niall

Managed to fix it myself.  I uninstalled everything and reinstalled, this time using the same password for the Root Broker and Authentication Broker in the Authentication service.  This time VRTSnomd stays up, I can see the NOM_BuiltIn domain in the web login page and can log in successfully.

Cheers,
Niall
