Hi

We have recently configured Data Domain with Netbackup 7.1 and we are using Data Domain for initially staging with retention period of one month for all backup.

We have separate policy called period-end which will take full back and dump data on data domain with retention period one month.

We are using vault job to duplicate same policy data on tapes and pool pool name offsite with retention level infinity.

I wanted to know do I need to change retention level in vault job or data written offsite pool tape having retention level infinity will change automatically.

Is there any other way to move data from staging area to tape.

Vault does not automatically change retention level - you need to specify retention in the duplication tab.

Another way is Storage Lifecycle Policies.

Configure SLP with backup destination as DD and one month retention, and duplication to tape with infinity retention.
You then select the SLP as backup destination.

I would suggest to go with the SLP because its make sure that the backup image has duplicated before its expires the copy 1
