NetBackup 7.7 NetApp cDOT 9.1 NDMP Backup Schedules and Types

VictorCharlesEd
Level 3

Ideally should each NetBackup policy have three schedules?

  1. Full Backup (NDMP level 0)
  2. Cumulative Incremental Backup (NDMP level 1)
  3. Differential Incremental Backup (NDMP last level +1 < 9)

For example I have an NDMP backup policy with a single volume.  I run #1 the first week, #2 the second week, and #3 the third through nineth week.  Does this make sense?

We have NetApp cDOT 9.1, NetBackup 7.7.3 (configured for CAB).  I am using this Veritas article too: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH143455

Victor, if you have SLA and defined RTO, RPO and so on then they dictate their rules. If this is a hypothetical question and you don't have any limits then you can do Full on weekend + differential OR cumulative backups  during work days and it's enough. If you don't have enough tapes/space or MSDP then you can do Full bakups less often but your recovery time will grow.
