NetBackup 8.1.2 and Oracle RMAN

Hi,

We have a fresh NetBackup installation and trying to configure Oracle policies. The backup from NetBackup end works fine but from client ( using RMAN)  we are getting errors like .

ORA-27028: skgfqcre: sbtbackup returned error

ORA-19511: non RMAN, but media manager or vendor specific failure, error text:

   VxBSACreateObject: Failed with error:

Server Status:  the specified schedule is the wrong type for this request

Going by various community threads it seems to be looking for “application type” backup schedule which is not available for “oracle” policy type.

Where should I add this schedule?

Thanks,

Ajay

Hello,

you have probably configured "intelligent policy" which does not support backups initiated from Oracle client.

For this. you must configure additional Oracle "legacy" policy which supports "Application Backup" schedules.

Regards

Michal

Thanks Michael are you referring to this section for configuring legacy policy?

No - Page 45 and forward "About script- or template-based Oracle policies"

BLI is Block Level Incremental. I have never seen it used.

Okay thanks and I believe in 8.1 we need to place rman scripts in

usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext

or

use variableDB_SCRIPT_PATH

for each client you need this type line in the bp.conf:

DB_SCRIPT_PATH = /opt/app/oracle/rman/

The policy should have two schedules,

1. name the first one Child.Job to differentiate it from the parent. type = application backup, with start window all week.

2. name the second one Parent.Job, type = full backup, I use calendar to schedule it.

The Backup selections should be the script in the DB_SCRIPT_PATH.

duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS

Consider to use Netbackup Oracle Intelligent Policies, it is a lot easier to use and manage. Implementation is straight forward. The "traditionally" script based approach has some very deep pits you avoid using OIP
