Hi
When I add a directory to a windows client exclude list will this also exclude all subdirectories as well? Or do I need to add something like [a-zA-Z].....
I'm basically looking for a way to exclude all files and subdirectories by using the Exclude list
thanks

Yes. If you exclude C:\Program Files, you exclude all of that tree. You can include back in subdirectories that you want to back up.

ok thanks
So just to confirm..... if i simply put C:\Program Files (without any wild cards, trailing \ or [ ] ) then that would recusively exclude all files and subdirectories below "C:\Program Files".
I think the main thing I wanted to ensure was that this happens recursively and won't continue to backup files and folders that are perhaps two levels down from my exclusion.
thanks

If you have C:\Program Files\Veritas\ in your exclude list it will exclude the entire directory Veritas, so all files and folders in Veritas are ignored. So, all directories and files in C:\Program Files\ are backed up except the directory Veritas and anything in Veritas.
In your specific question, if you have C:\Program Files in your exclude list, it will exclude any file named Program Files in C:\ and the entire directory Program Files including all files and directories inside of it.
If you don't close the exclude statement with a '\' it treats it as a file and directory.

Please note that support for wild cards are VERY limited on Windows clients.
Square brackets [] are not supported.
You can find everything about Exclude List on Windows clients in NBU Admin Guide I.
