Hello,

I have few generic queries, which I couldn't find it in admin guide,

1) bpcoverage -c client name - Getting details of individual client ,is this command recommended ? If not is there any alternate command ??

2) Sql appln runs on SQL DB,Oracle appln runs on Oracle DB & NetBackup appln runs on ASA or SQL DB? If not pls share your inputs

3) Synthetic backups is the combination of Full Backup & Incremental Backups . What is 'Optimized' Synthetic backup ? Is it something could benifit 'Accerlerator' feature in NB 7.5 ?

4) 6x vs 7x

      a) 6x Out Of support with vendor | supports both Cold & Hot catalog backup,Catlog Backup can be only on single tape |supports both 32 bit & 64 bit H/w

       b) 7x Vendor support exists | cannot have cold backup ,supports only Hot Backup, can be more than 1 tape | Supports only 64 bit

Are there any other differences excluding the above ?

5) NetBackup with DataDomain(EMC) - Need Enterprise Disk Option , PureDisk License on NetBackup & DDBoost,VTL,Expanded Storage License on DataDomain - Is my understanding correct ?

Kindly share if you any interesting factors which we cannot find it in Admin Guide, however could be useful in our Daily Backup Operations

Gents ,above queries are purely in terms of providing Backup Support more effeciently !!

1. It is fine to use it if you wish - not sure there is an equivalent

2. NBU uses Sybase ASA database - varying versions of the database at varying versions of NBU since 6.5

3. Optimised Synthetic Backup is a de-dupe feature and is very similar to Accelerator backup but do not involve taking any data from the client .. accelerator in effect take an incremental as it does the backup .. synthetic does not take anything from the client

4. Lots of differences between the versions .. as it went from 7 to 7.1 to 7.5 to 7.6 more and more fetaures were added. The 64 bit support is not correct - that applies only to 7.6. 6.5 is out of support so there is really nothing more to be said - but then current NBU versions do not support some O/S etc... so when you go from 6.5 backing up Windows 2000 and Exchange 2003 and upgrade to 7.6 you do need to do some planning!

5. A DD appliance usually just need the Data Protection Optimisation license if you want to use Accelerator / AIR etc. .. if you use ut as disk or a VTL then you need the Enterprise Disk license

Think that is all about right!
