NetBackup/Exchange - Not truncate logs after a successful full backup

Is there anyone experience this before?

Currently, we have one netbackup (NBU 6.5.4) server to backup two exchange 2003 servers, one is frontend and the other is backend.  On the back-end exchange, we configured three seperated policies to backup exchange databases:  one for public folder, one for infomation stores, and one for mail boxes.  The Information store backup and public folder backup happen first, and the mailboxes backup happen last.  The public folder and information store backups complete before the mailbox backups finish.  These configurations were working before, but now we have some issues.

When the Exchange Information Store backup schedules were complete with status 0, the exchange logs weren't truncated at all.  However, if we run a manual Information store backup, it's able to truncate the logs.

I can't see any problems from windows system logs, and the backup logs for info store backup indicates no issues.  All I can find from netbackup is the mail boxes backups finished with status 1.  Will this impact the information store backups and stop exchange truncating the logs, even they are on seperated policies?

You are saying that the mailboxes backup happen last.

The following statement seems as if they run at the same time?
The public folder and information store backups complete before the mailbox backups finish.

Consider the following in the 'Notes and limitation' section of NBU for Exchange manual:

Perform database backups separately from mailbox backups.

Do the same for Public Folders - ensure that Information Store backup completes successfully before the Public Folders and Mailbox backups start.

The reason why the logs are truncated when you run a manual backup is because nothing else is running at the same time (mailbox or public folders).

Thank you very much, Marianne.
I will try that.

Another question:  will the file system backup policies for the Exchange servers also impact on the information store backups, regarding truncating the exchange logs?

It shouldn't - as long as you have added the Exchange folders to the Exclude List.
