We recently issued EEB 3918337 for NetBackup 8.0 to support Exchange 2016 CU5. Database backups and restores are fine without the EEB, as are GRT backups. You need the EEB to browse and restore mailbox content from your backups. The EEB is an adaptation to changes in the Exchange database. Future NetBackup releases will include the adaptation. Earlier Exchange versions such as 2016 CU4 continue to be supported with or without the EEB.

The compatibility list has been updated to show that Exchange 2016 CU5 is supported by NetBackup 8.0. A footnote refers to TechNote https://www.veritas.com/docs/000126742 for a workaround, which is to apply the EEB. Our test engineers found a minor issue last week, and we updated the TechNote accordingly.

Do you have a public technote created for this EEB so we can get more info ? If yes could you please share it here ...

The TechNote doesn't exist yet. It will say the same thing as I've posted here. What more information do you need?
I was out-of-date with that response. Here's the TechNote:

Thanks. By chance can the compatibility matrix be updated at

I don't want to call in and have them ever say it isn't a suported setup. We also use that document internally to verify support.

The TechNote and EEB have been published, so Veritas support engineers should be able to get you the EEB.
The team that tests Exchange proliferations and updates the compatibility list is running it through their test suite. I can update here when they are done. Meanwhile, backups, even GRT, are not affected by the database change. Nor are database restores, so even if you found a problem with GRT restore, you could restore to RDB. If you did find a problem with GRT restore, we'd sure like to know about it.

Hmm, got the EEB from support. But no info if install on master/media and or only client...
Support-dude gone home. I don't like to assume anything.
The similar BE eeb cannot be uninstalled, so I guess this one cannot.
Can anyone fill me in here?

Install the EEB on all the Exchange mailbox servers. That is, the clients. The EEB can be uninstalled. It's just one DLL.

We have republished TechNote https://www.veritas.com/docs/000126742 because we found and fixed a couple more problems. We have replaced EEB 3918337 that fixes the original problem with EEB 3923206, which fixes all of the problems:
- Can't expand a mailbox node in the restore browser. (3918337 fixed this, except...)
- Even with EEB 3918337, can't expand an in-place archive mailbox.
- The restore browser displays a public folder mailbox under databases to which it does not belong.
- The restore browser displays system mailboxes. It should not, because you cannot restore system mailbox contents.
Your data is protected without EEB 3923206 (or the prior one). You need the EEB for GRT restore. The last two issues in this list are cleared up only on new backups taken with the EEB.
These are all the problems we know of with Exchange 2016 CU5. We don't know of any new problems with CU6. Watch the compatibility list for CU6 support.
