NetBackup Media Server on VM

It is recommended not to run media server on virtual machine. Where I can find exact information on why it is so?

Performance and device connectivity are some of reasons always given but somehow I am not fully convinced about it.

And if that is the reason then do we have any document with such information?

Thanks,

Nilesh

Basically, Media Server can only work in a VM using disk as the storage unit. You cannot attach SCSI tape changer devices into the VM. (Although some have tried, but as Mariannes references will show - not supported.)

You can do good testing, development of NetBackup in a VM. There is a open source VTL driver available to play with also.
