Hi there,
I would appreciate if someone can provide some answers on the below scenario:
2 sites - Production and DR
Site A - NetBackup 7.5.0.6 with EMC DD670 (Master on Windows 2008) - DDboost OST plugin (with both Production LAN and Backup LAN attached)
Site B - NetBackup 7.5.0.6 with EMC DD670 (Media on Windows 2008) - DDboost OST plugin (with both Production LAN and Backup LAN attached)
We are configuring SLP to perform 3 steps:
Step 1: Backup @ Production DD
Step 2: Duplicate to DR DD
Step 3: Duplicate to tape
My question is:
When it comes to Step 3 where the duplication to tape happenend, the data will pump from Production site via WAN link to DR Media Servers then to physical tape but what we require is to pump the data from DR DD via DR Backup LAN to DR Media Server then to phsyical tape, is that something wrong with the configuration on the network interface or it is the nature of how SLP work? How do we ensure that the data that suppose to goto physical tape are getting from DR DD via DR Backup LAN rather than via WAN link?
Appreciate the response.
Thanks.

Try specifying the DR media server as "alternate read server" in the SLP configuration.

Hi Nicolai,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Understand that the alternate read server is for SLP configuration, what if i am doing a manual duplication job where there is no such selection (alternate read server), how can i select other/alternate media server for manual tape duplication, is there any way to do this?
Thanks.

You can speciffy alternate server using bpduplicate command - see the altreadhost option.
Specify an alternate host from which to read the media. The default condition is that bpduplicate reads the source media from the host that performed the backup.

Make sure the source image for the tape duplication is from the DR Data domain..
In the SLP u can specify this in operation hierarchy manner.
Use arrow buttons in SLP window to select this..

also please go thru it which clearly explains your requirement:
page number 546 in the Netbackup 7.5 unix admin guide volume 1

In additional to what they had mentioned, you can review "Duplicating Backup Image" on page 782 of NetBackup 7.5 UNIX Admin Guide I. It provides step-by-step provide on how to perform duplication job. This might answer your inquiry.

For manual duplication or seeding , promote Copy2 images as primary .Netbackup then uses the local images(copy2) for duplication instead of fetching data over WAN from DR site.
