Hi

I just wanted to highlight to everyone that with the NBU 8.1 release, NSS(NetBackup Self Service) is now included in the  NBU Platform Base Complete Edition (NBUPBCE) offering. NetBackup Self Service will be continued to be available as standalone also.

NBU complete customers can download NSS from their MyVeritas portal, although currently they will need to contact their Veritas Customer support to obtain a production licence.

In a recent poll I did at Intalock I found that less than 50% of people were aware of this change.

NSS solves the problem where a customer wants to enable his 'end users' to perform (NBU) backup and restore services rather than having to funnel everything through the NBU Admin (team). Furthermore you can view health and utilisation information on your estate.

NSS is available as a standalone multi-tenant Portal and it has an API which can be used to easily build BaaS (Backup as a Service) functionality into a customers existing portal (i.e. ServiceNow, vRealize - an NSS vRealize adaptor is available).

Today many customers demand this functionality and most NBU competitors offer this out of the box as part of their solution, so by including this in NBU complete a customer can now consume NSS without having to buy an additional licence as was the case previously

Why is this only available to people with a certain type of license? Why not let everyone who already has Netbackup be able to download it? Not ideal to cut folks out. The licensing model on this software is not ideal and depending on environment size it makes it a 1 million dollar software purchase which I am sorry this simply is not worth that. Netbackup Self Service should just be a part of Netbackup and not only for those with a certain license model.
