There is no one-sheet configuration install routine as such that someone can provide, as each environment has different requirements for storing backup images - to disk or to tape, how long to keep images for, duplication, vaulting, include Bare Metal Restore etc etc

However, this is a wiki someone posted of their experience from early days up to NetBackup 6.0 of what they did to perform an installation. It might help but is out of date, if you are installing the latest 6.5 version.

If you have decided on NetBackup, then start looking into some of those guides. Its the only way. The forum can help along the way.

Depending on the scope and size of your environment it could be wiser to get a consultant in to install configure, and then you administer and perform further installs as you grow in confidence with the solution.

Please ensure that you can resolve hostnames in both directions before you start. If using DNS, ensure reverse lookup is enabled (need to resolve IP to hostname).

Yes, you can.

I have had several UNIX masters in the past on different platforms: TRU64 UNIX, HP-UX 11.23; now on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2 X86
And Windows NT, 2000 and 2003 media servers.
In that time I have been using Shared Storage Option to share the tape drives/libraries between these servers. You may not need SSO. See the guide below for reference.

• NetBackup is a true cross-platform backup solution.

Just refer to the Compatibility matrices for your hardware/software.
