NetBackup agent 7.0.1 keeps crashing on MS Server 2003 R2

Hi,

I run Netbackup 7.0.1 on my backup-servers.

I have a strange agent problem on one of my file-servers.

I have installed NetBackup 7.0.1 agent on my file-server (MS Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition - SP2).

When I logon to the server, I sometimes get the error:

Reporting queued error: faulting application bpbkar32.exe, version 7.0.2010.707, faulting module bedsnt5.dll, version 13.0.4163.0, fault address 0x000603ec.

In the Symantec NetBackup Administrative Console 7.0.1, I get the following error:

I have tried to reinstall the backup agent on the server, but to no avail.

I have made a scheduled task to reboot the server ½-hour before the backup starts, and sometimes the backup job succeeds, but not allways.

Do you have any hints to what I can try to fix this strange error?

Cause

This issue has been known to occur based on the order of which items are backed up.

Solution

As a workaround, it is possible to adjust the Policy Backup Selections and remove ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES in favor of a statically ordered list.  
For example:

C:\
System State:\
Shadow Copy Components:\System Services\
Shadow Copy Components:\User Data\

NOTE: DFSR content is backed up under "Shadow Copy Components:\User Data\".  It is important that User Data be listed LAST.  Also, to insure the greatest likelihood of success, make sure Allow Multiple Datastreams is unchecked on the Policy Attributes tab

in NBU version which you are using, the problem with bpbkar discussed in the below TN. I suggest you to upgrade atleast 7.1

I am running NBU 7.0.1 on the backup servers.

I tried another solution and upgrade the Netbackup client to 7.1 on the server with the problem.

 If I do not include the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) part of the backup, it seems to work without problems and without agent crashes.

Can this course any problems to use a NBU client on a higher software version than the NBU server version?

Windows clients on NBU 7.1.x are only supported by NBU 7.1 or higher master and media server.

Please see Version Compatibility TN:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH29677

New features introduced in newer Client version cannot be interpreted/understood by lower version master/media server.

Hi,

I have upgraded the Symantec NetBackup client on the server to 7.1 and installed the patch NB_7.1_ET2256525_2.

Now the backup has run for 3 nights without errors in the backup or when I log on to the server.
