Do NetBackup have the option to backup Sybase SQL anywhere DB
I dont see it in NetBackup compatibility documents and no effective references elsewhere.
Please let me know if it Sybase SQL anywhere DB can be backed up using NetBackup , if not what possibilities can be considered for backing the DB files (like backup dumps as flat files)

Hi @Sughi
It does not look like it.
NBU 9.0 database compatibility list can be found here:
Depending on the size of the database, you may use Netbackup bpstart_notify and bpend_notify script functionality. The bpstart_notify script can be run before a regular file system backup, and bpend_notify after end of the backup.
The idea is you write a script to dump the database before regular file system backup start to have a fresh database dump. By default the notify script has a timeout value of 15 minutes, meaning is not really suites for very large databases where the dump takes a long time.
I used the bpstart_notify/bpend_notify functionality myself to solve similar problems.

hi @Sughi
We both agree Netbackup doesn't support Sybase Anywhere.
Please look at my previous post about the bpnotify_start option in Netbackup, to solve the Sybase Anywhere backup problem you have. While is not a agent based solution, it's a possible workaround.

Thanks @Nicolai
Compatibility guide has contents for Sybase ASE which is different from sybase SQL anywhere to my knowledge.
I was able to locate old VOX post which also says Sybase ASE and Sybase SQL anywhere are different Solved: Can Netbackup backup a Sybase Anywhere Database? - VOX (veritas.com)
Please correct me if I am wrong and advise for backup.

Thanks @Nicolai.
There is no NetBackup agent for Sybase SQL anywhere, but still happy that this workaround will definitely help me.
