Hello all :D

So i was asked to create a process to automatically check that each of the server we run is capable of restoring from tape each month. this has been done but one little point niggles me.

Here is an example of the command i use to restore (bprestore -L <restore_log> -C server1 -D server1 /testfile.txt ) it restores 1 test file back to the same server it was originally backed up from.

Here is the niggle:
Kilobytes.JPG

As the pic above shows 1 file is being restored, This file is 50mb, what is the kilobytes column referring to?

- the only thing i can think is that this is the amount of date the restore process had to search through on the tape before it restored the test file?  hope I’m not wrong!

Regards
MT

A few other posts from a while back covering the same sort of thing:

HTH to alleviate any worries!

Hi Andy

Thanks for your help!
Looks like the people seem to concur that it is the amount of data searched through before it finds the file to restore.
Also useful to know that the time it takes to seek to this file can be reduced by setting good fragment sizes.

I have always belived the same thing.
I have watched while doing a large file restore.
and it shows kb's before it ever starts to restore the file ( which I see on disk once it starts)
