Netbackup 6.5 How to Increase Frequency of tapes releases

gstonian
Level 3
Running Netbackup 6.5.4 on HPUX Platform

At present every 12 hours our expired media is released back into the Scratch Pool. I would like to incease this to every 6 hours.

I tried "bpexpdate -deassignempty -force" manually but this only released 1 tape (0 images on it) but I was hoping upwards of 8 tapes (with images - but expired) to return to the scratch pool.

The standard 12 hour release subsequently returned these 8 tapes back into the scratch pool.

I also created CHECK_EXPIRED_MEDIA_INTERVAL in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpsched.d with a value of 6 and restarted netbackup but it didn't change anything.

Can anyone advise where the settings are to try and increase the frequency of expired media being released back into the wild ?

Thanks

bpimage -cleanup -allclients

"...
-cleanup   This command deletes expired  images,  compresses

and prunes the TIR information from the  specified
          images.

Note   This command enables a user  to  accomplish
the  same tasks manually that the scheduler
performs on a regular basis. It can be used
when  the user does not have enough time to
wait for the  scheduler  to  perform  these
                 tasks.
..."

prior to the bpexpdate command.

The cleanup interval here can be set via the GUI NetBackup Management > Host Properties > Master Servers > Master Server > Image Cleanup

You will see a job "Image Clenaup" running when you initiate the command:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpimage -cleanup -allclients

This expires all images as of the start time and cleans up the images directory. It also compresses based on your compression settings.

As the 'helpful' column for all posts started showing as zero sometime today!

The votes do appear to be coming through onto the current balance of the accounts though!

which you think is the solution! blush

But I know what you mean about other sites - you just close the thread down as it were.

For Connect tho' you mark as Solution that which helped you solve your issue. This serves two purposes - allows any other user with the same issue to go directly to the solution by clicking on the "see solution" link it also credits the person who has solved the problem (both in reputation and in points!)
