We have close to 7TB of NAS volume , we do backup using NDMP . Having issues with level 1,2,xx when doing the backups , we do however can get a full backup without any issues. Our config is simple we don't have any variable set nor these parameters set -
-SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS
-NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS
-SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS_DISK
-NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS_DISK
-NET_BUFFER_SZ
-NET_BUFFER_SZ_REST
How can we optimize NDMP backups , do we need to have set Type =TAR and other variables set ? How can we exclude files and directories ? ( .EXE , .ISO etc). How can we get the backups completed faster ?

When doing environment variables, you have to add them to the policy as such
SET TYPE=TAR
TYPE=TAR will fail, however, without setting a type, it will default on the system to its default environment variable.
This may already be set on the Dell and would just be for good measure in the policy.
You say you are having issues with the incrementals. The one item I have not seen yet that is crucial to troubleshooting is the job details.

Not sure what you mean with 'Having issues with level 1,2,xx when doing the backups '?
Just slow performance?
The NBU HCL says the following for your filer:
TYPE=tar environment variable must be set.
TYPE=dump backups are not supported.
There seems to be no other NBU documentation available for this filer.
(I cannot find anything in NDMP Appliance Information for this make/model)
Probably best to look for Dell documentation as far variables and Exclude lists are concerned.
Please show us policy config for the filer:
bppllist <policy-name> -U

And when we used set TYPE=TAR , the backup will not kick off , even though it says in the symantec document to use that for DELL system . So we just have /Filesystem volume in the policy and we back ip up.
