Hi
NBU does not yet perform this type of granular application backup during a vurtual machine backup.
Interestingly backup Exec can do this in a VMWare environment (not sure about HyperV) so i would image it will be coming soon once they have conerted the code.
For the application install a client and do a traditional application backup
Hope this helps

Hyper-V image level backup and restoration for vm(guest os) can be performed well, however for incremental backup its just filesystem level backup so recovery is possible only from last full backup.
For most recent backup and recovery its always advisable to carry on with Netbackup for application level backup.
Ex: MS-SQL Server, MS-Sharepoint, MS-Exchanger Sever,....

Hyper-V supports mapped backups aka SFR (single file restore)
=> microsoft best practice is to install the NBU client on the VM even tough HyperV does a better job at app level quiescing. VMware does a BAD job at it.
We have our own VSS Provider, but to this only works with exchange in a limited environment (NBU7.1). NBU 7.5+vStorage is fully going to support SQL, Exchange& Sharepoint.. SAAAAAAAAAY WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!?!?!??!?!?
OH YEAH.... full app level support :) see you at NBU 7.5!
