client backup was not attempted because backup window closed(196)

Plus when I want to just change the tapes over do i need to anything apart change the tapes, and then click inventory should it just automatically look in the ScratchPool and just takes tapes to backup from there. Is there anymore steps i have to follow just to get it to backup.

Sorry for the bad explanation.

Your backups are failing with status 196, reason being job couldn't get the resources within the scheduled window and it failed. In your case, this was caused due to the max concurrent jobs limit reached on the storage unit. I don't know what settings are on your environment, but tuning this or increasing backup window are the ways to get around this failure.

For tapes question, running inventory should take care of updating tapes and assigning to the specific volume pools, however make sure you select empty map, update volume and use barcode rules before starting inventory.

As per above post, your problem is with insufficient resources:
"Maximum job count has been reached for the storage unit"

So, step 1 is to check the config for VMware_Backups Storage Unit. It is probably not allowing sufficient simultaneous backups.

Please show us output of:
bpstulist -label VMware_Backups -U

Please also tell us how many Active jobs you see at a time and how many queued.

About tapes:
Check if you have Barcode Rule for new tapes to automatically go to Scratch pool. Backup pools will automatically draw from Scratch.
Expired tapes will also be returned to Scratch pool if they originally came from Scratch.

PS:
Please start planning NBU upgrade as all versions up to 7.6.x ran out of support a year ago.
