Netbackup 7.6 - Backup only files older than x

I have a 250TB Hitachi data store than I can backup just fine thru NDMP policy types using Netbackup 7.6.

How do I direct Netbackup to only backup files OLDER THAN 1 YEAR?

I have searched, help file'd, and asked my vendor, I cannot seem to find the answer. Thanks!

NDMP backup type is using the NAS-side of commands to perform backup, so you might want to check with your NAS vendor to see if they have a parameter (or environment variable) to feed into the backup command

Well.. as far as I know from Netapp, no such parameter for the dump command.

I don't think that's possible.

From the Admin Guide

The allowable backup types for schedules in an NDMP policy are: Full, Cumulative
Incremental, or Differential Incremental. User-initiated backups and archives are
not allowed because the NDMP protocol does not permit these tasks

Hello, thanks. Yes, I am not sure I asked the right question.

I want to take a NDMP policy Full, Cumulative, Incremental or Differential backup of only files older than a certain date using the last modified or last accessed bit file attribute of the files on the share.

I do not care if the backup is scheduled or user initiated.  thanks

I am reading that there may be 'directives' or switches that I can add such as:

G:\*.* /SUBDIR /EXCLUDE /ATER:08/08/2004 /BEFORE:08/08/2006

or

c:\*.*/SUBDIR/EXCLUDE/ACCESSDAYS:365

Yet, I cannot seem to find any documentation on such switches.....

No option for this I'm afraid.

The way it could be done is via a custom script ...

list files in dir, add the filenames that meet your requirements to a file, so you end up with a file containing a list of files to backup.

Use bpbackup command with -f option to read in this list of files.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and info.

This seems like a very basic feature that should be added.

Seems you are in need of an archiving product rather than a backup product. Archiving products will move files onto secondary storage based on a set of rules, such as age. Backup products are meant to protect latest files/data.
